The design queue is the real constraint
Ask any operator where their rollout schedule slips and the honest answer is rarely the construction crews. It is the design queue. Every serving area waits its turn for days of CAD and GIS work, and design capacity scales linearly with headcount. Hiring more designers is slow, expensive, and self-limiting — the constraint just moves.
Meanwhile the market moves. Permits expire, competitors overbuild, and the business case that justified an area six months ago no longer holds by the time the design lands.

What agents change
An AI design agent takes a described serving area and produces the full design: routes, equipment placement, fiber allocation, and a costed bill of materials. Engineers stop drafting and start reviewing. The turnaround for a serving area drops from a queue position to a conversation.
